PETA have urged people to ask Sony for a "PETA mode" for Ragnarök, so that it “can be played without violence to animals”.

Spoiler warning: This article contains mild spoilers for God of War: Ragnarök - proceed with caution.

God of War: Ragnarök has had a spectacular launch. After its onslaught of overwhelmingly positive reviews, it came as no surprise to see Kratos’ latest adventure nominated for multiple Game Awards categories, including Game of the Year. We’ll just have to wait until 8 December to see how many awards the title manages to take home.

However, not everyone is happy. As reported by TheGamer, animal rights organisation PETA has taken to Twitter to ask Santa Monica Studio to make a “PETA mode” so that Ragnarök “can be played without violence to animals”.

Take a look at this bizarre God of War: Ragnarök ad starring Ben Stiller as Kratos below.

“If you’re cold, they’re cold. Tyr was wrong to chain this pup up and leave him outside in the freezing cold of Helheim,” PETA wrote, attaching a video which showcases the fight against Garm - AKA the wolf from Norse mythology who guards the entrance to Hel. In the video, PETA express their sadness about the fact that the “dog has been chained outside in the cold for ages” and found “in deplorable conditions, enduring the cold ravages of the Fimbulwinter without any shelter”.

“All dogs deserve loving homes and warm couches, even if they’re 60 feet tall,” PETA wrote. “Ask @SonySantaMonica to create a ‘PETA mode’ so players can get past Garm without hurting him.”

Now, obviously it goes without saying that when it comes to real dogs, they should always be given warmth, shelter and food. However, given that this is a fictional mythological wolf we’re talking about, you can understand why people are a bit baffled.

“Ok just chill out will you it’s just a video game,” @GemmaFinnerty replied. “It’s a video game, that’s it,” tweeted @NikkiLA22. “This isn’t real life,” wrote @Alandavid1971.
