People Really Think 'Obi-Wan Kenobi' Episode 4 Has This Famous Jedi

Hello there!

Mark Foster

Mark Foster

Right, I’m going to preface this article by saying that if you haven’t yet watched Obi-Wan Kenobi episode four (which came out today) go and watch it before you read this. What are you doing here? Why are you like this? If you have seen it, tally ho, let’s go.

Episode four of the show sees Obi-Wan and Tala venture to the Fortress Inquisitorius in order to rescue Leia, who’s been snatched up by the Child Snatch- I mean Reva. Glossing over a lot of the details, Obi-Wan eventually enters the secure sector where he discovers something utterly horrifying - the bodies of numerous jedi floating in orange goo. I will henceforth be referring to these as pickled jedi and will not be taking any further questions.

We recently spoke to Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader's actor Hayden Christensen about what it was like to reunite with Ewan McGregor - who plays Obi-Wan Kenobi - after 17 long years.

Aside from being utterly shook by the sight of so many of his fallen comrades, it’s clear that Obi-Wan recognises some of the bodies. The first one he looks at is Jedi Master Tera Sinube who, in Star Wars canon, wasn’t confirmed to be dead until this episode. But Sinube isn’t who we’re here to talk about. Neither are we here to talk about the pickled youngling with his little jedi hat still on. Oof.

At the end of the scene as Obi-Wan is leaving the chamber, there’s a shot that seems to show a jedi on the right side of the screen, who bears a striking resemblance to….. Mace Windu?!

Now, we’ve done some detective work and the result is, unfortunately, inconclusive. We know that Mace had his right hand chopped off by Anakin in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, and at first glance, it looks like the body in the goo still has his right hand. But looking a little closer, that might be his left hand stretched out in front of his body? Difficult to be sure.

At any rate, I have my doubts as to whether this is actually Windu. For one, Windu and Kenobi knew each other well, and I find it really hard to believe that Obi-Wan would just walk past his mate without a second glance. I also don’t think Disney would do Mace Windu - who fans have been begging to see a return of for years - dirty like that. Of course in real-life terms, keeping the character’s status as a grey area means they can do a Mace Windu series and blow our collective minds and make a lot of money for Disney. Also, if we’re being totally honest with ourselves, that doesn’t look that much like Samuel L. Jackson, does it?

Anyway, Obi-Wan Kenobi is currently running on Disney+ with new episodes dropping every Wednesday. But you knew that already, didn’t you?
