Hacking a naval warship sounds like some super-exciting next-level spy shit on paper. In reality, it's much more boring - and apparently involves a lot more Age Of Empires.
Earlier this week, Task & Purpose (via Motherboard) reported that the USS KIDD had been compromised. To be fair, it wasn't the warship itself that got hacked, but its... Facebook account. I guess that's a thing warships have these days, for some reason.
What malicious activity would this hacker get up to? Would they attempt to start a war with China? Would they advise citizens to inject themselves with bleach? Anything else Donald Trump might have done or did back when he had Twitter? Nope! On October 3, all the hacked USS KIDD account did was post a status that read: "hahahahaha". Oh, and they also hosted a four-hour livestream of the original Age Of Empires.

The worst part? The hacker wasn't even very good at the game.Those who stuck around for the stream were subjected to hours of mundane tasks with very little in-game progress.
"Somebody teach this guy how to play," one user complained. The account then hosted four more streams on October 4, although never actually made any real progress. "You gotta get out of the stone age my man," urged another commenter.
"The official Facebook page for USS KIDD (DDG 100) was hacked," Navy spokesperson Commander Nicole Schwegman confirmed to Task & Purpose. "We are currently working with Facebook technical support to resolve the issue."
It's currently unclear whether or not the USS KIDD account is back under the control of the Navy, but we've not seen any Age Of Empire streams on there for the past few days.
