Bad news today for any fellow Overwatch 2 Mei players. As reported by Polygon, Blizzard has confirmed that, as a result of a bug, the ice-wielding DPS hero is getting booted out of the game for at least two weeks. I sincerely hope that any solo Mei mains (Meins?) weren’t planning to have any lengthy play sessions in that time.

The bug in question gave Mei far more power than she ever should have - the ability to travel through the plane of reality and wreak havoc from other dimensions. No, seriously - it turns out that her Ice Wall had an extra perk all along.

Check out the trailer for Overwatch 2 right here.

“We are temporarily disabling Mei to address a bug with her Ice Wall ability that allows heroes to reach unintended locations,” a tweet from Blizzard’s North American customer support account reads. “We are working to address these issues as quickly as possible and aim to bring Mei back in our next upcoming patch which is set for November 15.”

If you’ve not seen the bug in action, take a look at the clip from Reddit below. Basically, using Ice Wall in the right location can force Mei out of bounds. This can be used to bring other heroes outside of the map, too - Kiriko, for example, can simply use her Swift Step ability to follow Mei, and from there, attack the enemy team with ease with no way for them to fight back. Unless they also have a Mei capable of inter-dimensional travel, that is.

It’s a real shame to see Mei booted, but at least it’s only temporary. In the meantime, maybe more players can take up the mantle of being a support hero, because good lord do the role queues need more of those.
