Earlier this week, we got our first official look and trailer for the upcoming Disney+ show, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and it goes without saying that fans are very excited. The six-part series, which is set to premiere on 25 May, will see Ewan McGregor in the titular, starring role, and will take place at some point after the events of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith.
Predictably, even though we’ve seen less than two minutes of the show, people are already wondering if we can expect to see a second series. Believe it or not, it’s not just the fans talking about this - the higher-ups are already considering it themselves. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Lucasfilm president and producer Kathleen Kennedy, and Obi-Wan Kenobi director Deborah Chow, were asked for their thoughts.
Before we go on, be sure to check out the trailer for Obi-Wan Kenobi below.
Chow revealed that when the idea was first brought together, Obi-Wan was supposed to tell its entire story within six episodes, rather than drag it out into anything longer. “It was definitely conceived as a limited series, and it is one big story with a beginning, middle, and end,” she said. “The approach has always been that it is one full story.”

Despite that though, Kennedy is optimistic that it could still happen, but only if there was a good reason to. “It's certainly something we talk about, mainly because everybody came together and had such an incredible time. Ewan [McGregor] had an incredible time. Hayden [Christensen] had an incredible time. So certainly from that point of view, everybody involved would love to see this not end,” she explained. “But we have to really spend our time asking the question: why would we do it? If we were to decide to do anything more with the Obi-Wan character, we'd have to really answer the question why?”
There’s no doubt that the show is going to have the popularity to warrant a second season, anyway, so we’ll just have to see if the team can come up with an excuse to give Obi-Wan some more screen time. As if having more Ewan McGregor action isn’t a good enough excuse in of itself.
