The announcement was made over on Twitter, and reads: “In light of recent world events, we have made the decision to delay Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp, which was originally scheduled to release on Nintendo Switch on 08/04. Please stay tuned for updates on a new release date.”

“I mean, makes all the sense in the world. War's probably not ending anytime soon and having a war themed game in the midst of an actual war is distasteful,” tweeted @Fooza___. “It's perfectly understandable and I was expecting this given it's a game about war with tanks and modern weapons. Wishing Advance Wars the best once this horrible war is over,” wrote @So_Ethereal.
Others, however, don’t believe that the delay is necessary. “This is nonsense. Advance Wars has nothing to do with [the] war in [Ukraine], it doesn't even feel like a real war game. I don't get it and I don't appreciate it,” said @schmauza. “Wars were going on for years in other countries that didn't stop other games based around war from being released... It's probably because it's not finished yet which is strange considering it's not even that different [than] the old games,” wrote @beegust_yoshees.
Although the remake is being delayed for a tragic reason, interestingly, a very similar thing happened with the release of the original, too. The first Advance Wars game was set to release in Japan in 2001, not long after it came out in America, but was cancelled due to the 9/11 attacks. It was instead released in 2004, along with its sequel, as Game Boy Wars Advance 1+2.
There’s currently no word on when we can expect Re-Boot Camp to be released, so we’ll have to wait and see what happens. It goes without saying though that the safety of those being affected by these events is far more important than the release of a video game - if you want to do your bit to help the people of Ukraine, you can donate directly to the British Red Cross’ Ukraine Crisis Appeal here.
