Nintendo Switch major update dropped ahead of Switch 2 release

It's about time

We are getting closer and closer to the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 but ahead of the exciting day, Nintendo has been making some changes to its digital storefront.

Since its launch in 2017, the Nintendo Switch eShop has hardly been updated, leaving some users feeling frustrated with its UI over the years.

Find out more about the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 below!

However, ahead of the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 next month, Nintendo have seemingly found the time to give the eShop a little spruce up and better yet, it will be updated for all Switch, Switch Lite, and Switch OLED models as well as the upcoming Switch 2.

Now hoping to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the PlayStation and Xbox digital storefronts, the Nintendo Switch eShop has welcomed a few new changes.

The first is an update to Charts, a subsection of the eShop which promotes certain games.

Now instead of promoting shovelware games in their masses, this will hopefully be catered more to some bigger-name titles in the future.

However, this change will not remove shovelware games from the Nintendo eShop altogether, but at least you won’t have to sort through them should you choose to peruse the top chart titles.

Additionally, how games even appear on the charts in the first place has received some fine-tuning.

Instead of featuring games based on the most copies sold over the past 48 hours, it will now calculate titles based on their revenue across the last 72 hours.

This could be hit-or-miss as this business model will favour games which cost more, as games that cost less will have to sell a lot more copies in order to keep up.

Either way, it seems as though Nintendo is cracking down on shovelware games, as despite not being able to remove them completely, it can still make sure that they are not featured as heavily to customers via the Nintendo eShop.
