New Battlefield confirmed, will have 'most realistic destruction effects in industry'

The next Battlefield game is already making big promises

The next entry in Electronic Arts’ Battlefield series hasn't been officially announced yet, but that hasn't stopped big promises from already being made.

It’s fair to say that when Battlefield 2042 was released in 2021, it was a bit of a flop. Before its launch, a lot of fans were instantly turned off by the fact that Battlefield 2042 would have no single player campaign. So with it lacking such a popular mode, developer DICE would at least knock the multiplayer offerings out of the park, right? Sadly, the large maps of Battlefield 2042 felt empty only favouring those that prefer the sniper class, not to mention that the game was lacking a lot of standard features and it was very buggy, to say the least.

One of the other disappointing features of Battlefield 2042 was its destructible environments or as EA would like to call it, ‘Levolution’. This not only was supposed to make tower block buildings crumble to dramatic effect but it was also supposed to change the landscape of the multiplayer map on the fly. Unfortunately, the destructible environments of Battlefield 2042 were not better than Battlefield 4, a game that was released eight years before 2042 in 2013.

However, as reported by Tech4Gamers, it seems that EA wants to right the wrong of the underwhelming destructible environments of Battlefield 2042 in the next outing. A job listing for a VFX director at Canadian and Los Angeles-based studio Ripple Effect is working on the next Battlefield game and hints that destructible environments are coming back in a big way.

The would-be applicant would be joining the team as a senior 3D artist to “help us create the most realistic and exciting destruction effects in the industry”. The employee would be working at the Vancouver studio as well as remotely and would report to the chiefs in LA.

As exciting as the next game in the Battlefield series promises to be with the “most realistic and exciting destruction effects in the industry,” it’s still worth taking this listing with a pinch of salt, after all, this listing exists purely to entice talented developers to join the EA team. What’s more, even when EA releases the first gameplay for the next Battlefield, I still won't 100% believe what I’m seeing, until I’ve played the game first-hand.

No release date has been announced for the next Battlefield game, but it’s perhaps a safe assumption to make that it might be released sometime during late 2024. We’ll keep you posted when we hear further developments.
