MultiVersus is being pulled offline, no refunds allowed

MultiVersus' open beta is being taken offline in June in order for the devs to make key improvements before the full launch next year.

MultiVersus, Warner Bros. Games’ free-to-play take on the Super Smash Bros. series, is being pulled offline less than a year since it launched its open beta.

As Polygon reports, the news was announced over on the MultiVersus website by director Tony Huynh, who thanked players for their support so far, but acknowledged that “there’s still a lot of work to do” on the game. As such, it’ll be going offline in June while the team make some key changes.

Take a look at MultiVersus in action below.

“We have a clearer view of what we need to focus on, specifically the content cadence of new characters, maps and modes to give you more ways to enjoy the game, along with updated netcode and more matchmaking improvements,” Huynh said. “We’ll also be reworking the progression system based on your feedback and looking at new ways for you to connect with your friends in the game.”

MultiVersus will be disappearing from digital storefronts (on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Series X/S) on 4 April, and will then go offline on 25 June until the game’s full launch, which is currently targeting early 2024. For clarity, the offline training room will still be available, so if you really want to get your practice in before the re-launch, be sure to get the game downloaded while you can.

Unfortunately for those who already dropped real money on in-game purchases, no refunds are being rolled out as a result of the beta closure. Not all is lost forever, though - everything, including purchased content, will be brought over to the full game when it re-launches.

“We do know that this news might be disappointing, but rest assured, MultiVersus will be back,” Huynh continued. “We’ll also ensure that all of your progress and content will carry over when MultiVersus returns next year, with a variety of new content, features and modes.”
