It’s been a busy few days for Moon Knight fans. First, we were treated to an entertaining and satisfying season finale (which did eventually fall into the classic Marvel formula, but you can’t have it all) and then just days later, Oscar Isaac revealed that there are no plans for a second season.
Despite the fact that Moon Knight is officially a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase Four line-up, the show has set itself apart from the wider MCU. Instead of stuffing its six episodes with cameos and crossovers, Moon Knight opted to tell a self-contained origin story. It’s a decision that’s earned the show both critical and fan acclaim, yet in the space of a single tweet, Marvel may have ruined their awards chances.
If you haven't yet caught up on Moon Knight, check out the trailer below.
Shortly before Wednesday’s finale episode, Marvel Studios tweeted, “This Wednesday, experience the epic series finale of Marvel Studios’ Moon Knight.” The tweet has since been deleted and an updated version was sent out referring to the episode as the “season finale”. It may not seem like a major change, but the alteration does actually have big implications.
Just like Hawkeye, Marvel Studios reportedly submitted Moon Knight into the limited series category of this years’ Emmys. As pointed out by Variety, once a show is submitted by a network for awards consideration, the TV academy considers marketing materials in addition to the show itself.

If the TV academy spots the reference to Moon Knight’s “season finale,” the implication is that further down the line, there may be another season. If this is the case, the show obviously would no longer be eligible in the limited series category, so the TV academy could bar it from consideration.
The truth is, it’s probably good news for us, because maybe there will be a second season after all but if Marvel Studios were indeed hoping to add some more trophies to their cabinet, it’s a glaringly obvious blunder.
