Modern Warfare 2 players are obsessed with game's new 'anti-camping' tool

Modern Warfare II's new drill charge is great news for anti-campers, and bad news for those who utilise this controversial tactic.

You may have heard of a little ol’ game called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II which was released on Friday. Chances are, you’ve either been playing the game non-stop since, or your friends have and they haven’t stopped talking about it. Perhaps rather unsurprisingly, Modern Warfare II sales are massively up compared to last year’s Vanguard.

Fans have been praising the “incredible” campaign, with particular attention paid to one extremely photorealistic Amsterdam-set level. That being said, a real life hotel in Amsterdam has threatened legal action over its inclusion. On the lighter side of things though, fans are loving the new anti-camping tool.

Take a look at Modern Warfare II’s brand new third-person mode.

What’s the new anti-camping tool, I hear ye ask? Well, it’s nothing to do with tents. As I’m sure you’re aware, campers are enemies known for staying in one spot. It’s a simple tactic yet one that can be extremely annoying to fall victim to. A camper with a top-notch vantage point? That’s a hard obstacle to overcome.

Well, MWII has introduced the drill charge - your new anti-camping best friend. The drill charge is a high explosive charge with an attached thermal lance that allows the device to burrow into a surface before it detonates. The best part, you can throw it and it’ll sort the burrowing out itself. As pointed out by PC Gamer, this means that if a camper is bothering you, you should be able to lob the drill charge like a grenade and it’ll burrow into a nearby surface obliterating your opponent.

If they do escape with their life (and the drill charge does give plenty of warning), they’ll be forced to move out of their spot so either way, the camping problem is sorted. You can attach them to walls, ceilings, floors, vehicles … all with a poorly aimed throw. As Reddit user RunTheFrames put it, “It will also really surprise you how thick of a wall you can throw it on and it still go out the other side, so don't be afraid to play around with it even if you think there's no way it will work. Drill charge is absolutely the best addition to CoD in a long time.” High praise, indeed.
