Metal Gear Solid meets Portal in new Unreal Engine 5 action-adventure game

A new game has been announced that seems to blend together the reality-bending nature of Portal and the stealth mechanics from Metal Gear Solid.

"A former military legend is summoned for a mysterious mission: to rescue a captive scientist and uncover the truth behind a cataclysmic event. The mission, assigned by enigmatic Architects, is shrouded in uncertainty as some doors within the unknown territory lead to unpredictable and perilous destinations. Each door reveals new secrets and challenges, and he must navigate this treacherous landscape, discovering what awaits him behind each threshold, to complete his mission and unveil the hidden truths," developer Motion Blur told IGN.

ICYMI: Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is on the way very soon.

The trailer for the title shows off the protagonist of the title attacking enemies with a knife while running through doors that seemingly lead to random locations. One door goes straight from what looks to be a train compartment to a modern military base, and it's likely that this simply scratches the surface of what the game is looking to achieve on a technical level. Developed in Unreal Engine 5, it's likely that Black State is looking to push some boundaries to show off the tech on display.

"Obviously, we love the Metal Gear Solid series. While working on our extensive, nearly 500-page game design document over 2.5 years, we constantly admired games like The Last of Us, Metal Gear Solid, Uncharted and many others that push the limits of development and gameplay mechanics. Inspired by these influences, our small team is committed to delivering the highest development quality and exceptional gameplay mechanics, despite our limited size. We strive to create rich and deep storytelling combined with engaging gameplay mechanics, offering an impressive and unforgettable gaming experience. Our goal is to push ourselves to our limits and give gamers the best possible experience we can provide," developer Motion Blur said to IGN when asked about inspirations behind the game.

There's no release window at the time of writing but we'll be keeping an eye on this project's progress.
