Mass Effect is reportedly returning in 2026, after an awfully long hiatus that’s driven fans a little bit mad.
What was once the pinnacle of narrative-focused sci-fi video games has been reduced to a shadow of its former self.
Mass Effect ended things quite poorly with Mass Effect 3 and its multiple endings, and things weren’t much better with Mass Effect: Andromeda. Fans now await news on Mass Effect 5, which will hopefully give the series the quickstart it needs to reclaim its former glory.
Before Mass Effect 5 though there’s something else on the way, a TV series. In production with Amazon, the series will presumably follow the story from the first three games, though not much has been said about it at the time of writing.

According to IGN, however, the series is getting ready to start filming, and will begin its initial shoots sometime in 2026.
This could change, of course, but right now there’s no reason to think it will, and given how Amazon also brought us the Fallout series with a promising second season on the way, things are looking good for Mass Effect’s live-action adaptation.
As for the next game, Electronic Arts and BioWare are yet to share any development information, though it’s said whatever story elements are introduced in the fifth game won’t canonise any of Mass Effect 3’s endings.
Fans who have been discussing the upcoming series believe it has potential to span several seasons, which you’d hope for given how long the Mass Effect trilogy actually is.

It’ll need all the time it can get to flesh out each of its characters as well as give fans both new and old a whistlestop tour of the Mass Effect galaxy.
If the series is a success and reaches the events of Mass Effect 3 though, it’ll be interesting to see how it chooses to end the story.
