Marvel’s Avengers developer has apologised for the game being, well, a little bit rubbish and failing to meet expectations.
Originally released in 2020, developed by Crystal Dynamics, Marvel’s Avengers came bundled without a lot of hype, most of which was generated by the publisher as well as the developer. However, ultimately, it eventually became yet another failed live-service product.
Barely two years after its initial launch as well as its arrival on new-gen consoles, publisher Square Enix decided to pull the plug on content support for Marvel’s Avengers. However, while new content for Marvel’s Avengers has come to an end, it will still be playable online as well as offline. Well, that’s at least until the decision is made to pull the plug on its servers too.

“It was a challenging production, let's say," said co-creative director Cezar Virtosu to Edge Magazine in its latest issue (thanks GamesRadar). Virtosu is now working alongside executive producer Saul Gascon on The Lords of the Fallen sequel/reboot. Furthermore, while still on the topic of the failure of Marvel’s Avengers, Gascon told Edge Magazine: “I apologise for that.”
The Lords of the Fallen is powered by Unreal Engine 5 and is set around 1,000 years after the events of the 2014 game. Developed by Hexworks, much like its predecessor, The Lords of the Fallen is very much in the Soulslike genre and looks to be as gruesome, as it is gruelling.
In terms of what the future holds for Marvel games post-Avengers, we still have plenty to look forward to. Not only do we have Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 as well as Wolverine from Insomniac Games, but we even have a new Iron Man game and another starring Captain America & Black Panther.
In related Marvel news, MCU chief Kevin Feige has confirmed that Spider-Man 4 starring Tom Holland is officially on the way. Happy days!
