Marvel Snap drops free rewards following TikTok outage

And you'll still get some freebies, even if you're not an United States citizen

Marvel Snap is getting a whole bunch of freebies later on this week, as a way of apology following its sudden and frankly ridiculous ban earlier last week.

In case you’re just hearing about this, here’s a quick summary.

The Supreme Court decided to ban TikTok (for about two days) prior to Donald Trump being sworn in for his second term as the United States president.

TikTok was developed by a company called ByteDance. Nurverse, a ByteDance-owned publisher, published Marvel Snap.

So, naturally, Marvel Snap was banned for a hot minute due to its affiliation with ByteDance. The game is now up and running again, but developer Second Dinner still wants to apologise (for the thing that 100% wasn’t their fault).

“As we said earlier, we realise that many of you missed out on time-based content, rewards, and Missions during this outage. This disruption of service is more than just an unfortunate blip in our eyes,” Second Dinner stated in a post on Twitter.

Marvel Rivals is another title worth your time.

“As such, we are not only committed to making up for this disruption, but we want to welcome back players, new and old, with some extra goodies to celebrate.”

However, while the rewards are nice and all, the most interesting part of this is that Second Dinner is ditching ByteDance entirely.

“Additionally,” they continued in their Twitter post, “to make sure this never happens again, we’re working to bring more services in-house and partner with a new publisher. This is the beginning of a new era in MARVEL SNAP.”

Didn’t know it was that easy to just drop your publisher, but maybe Disney had a little say in the matter.

In fact, I’d be surprised if Disney wasn’t their new publisher moving forward. Either way, I highly doubt something like this will ever happen again (whether they stayed with ByteDance or not).
