'Mario Kart 8' DLC Just Dropped, Here's What It Looks Like Next To The Originals

'Mario Kart 8' DLC Just Dropped, Here's What It Looks Like Next To The Originals

The update gives Coconut Mall the respect it deserves.

Nintendo stealth dropped a cheeky Nintendo Direct last month, and fans were disappointed to see that we weren't getting Mario Kart 9 like we were all expecting.

Instead, Daddy Nintendo promised to double the number of tracks in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, adding an extra 48 tracks over the next two years. Even better, those who have Nintendo Switch Online and the Expansion Pass, can access the DLC for free, as long as they own the main game of course.

If you want to see just how Nintendo have reworked these classic Mario Kart tracks for the Nintendo Switch, you can see our side by side comparison in the video below.

Starting today (18 March) every Mario Kart racer can dive into the first wave of DLC featuring eight new courses in two new cups. The first new cup, Golden Dash Cup, features Paris Promenade from the mobile game Mario Kart Tour, Toad Circuit from the 3DS' Mario Kart 7, Choco Mountain out of Mario Kart 64, and an absolute fan favourite Coconut Mall is coming from Mario Kart Wii.

Since the trailer dropped many were worried about the look of the new tracks, fearing that they would not live up to the quality of the courses in the base game. However, comparing the first cup to the original tracks they are based on, they do look vastly improved.

The other cup released today is the Lucky Cat Cup. With this cup you can play on Tokyo Blur and Ninja Hideaway from Mario Kart Tour, Shroom Ridge from Mario Kart DS, and Sky Garden from Mario Kart: Super Circuit for the Game Boy Advance.

We still don't know when the next wave will release or what tracks will be included. However, Nintendo has promised tracks from all previous Mario Kart titles. So it shouldn't be long before we get some sweet Double Dash action.
