Mario Kart World has officially been shown off in all of its glory as one of the first, and exclusive, Nintendo Switch 2 launch titles.

Today’s Nintendo Direct is all about the Nintendo Switch 2, and we’ve finally seen that mysterious Mario Kart title first spotted in the console’s reveal presentation.

Mario Kart World looks fantastic, and as the name implies, it seems like continental travel is the game’s main gimmick this time around.

That’s right; we’re going all over the place with this one, as players will not be confined to the race track itself. You can go off-road if you like.

The way this will work is in Grand Prix mode, you’ll be travelling to each course in the cup you’re playing, and can then dive into a free-roam mode if you just want to cruise around and take in the sights.

A whopping 24 characters can take part in races now, so just imagine the mayhem when you jump into some online play; maybe even get a few friend groups together for a chaotic voice call.

An elimination round was also teased but Nintendo has confirmed there'll be a full dedicated Direct to the game scheduled 17 April, so keep an eye out for that.

The last thing to touch on is the game is confirmed to be an exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2; it won't be available on the normal Nintendo Switch unfortunately, and it'll also be a launch title for the Switch 2 system.

The game has since been confirmed to be launching on the same day as the Nintendo Switch 2, which is the 5 June.
