Mafia: The Old Country drops epic gameplay trailer, confirms low pricing

A trailer, a release date, and a reasonable price?!

You best bet that I am counting down the days for this one.

Mafia is set to return to us very soon when Mafia: The Old Country launches on 8 August with 2K and Hangar 13 now having confirmed that leaked release date to be very real.

That’s not all.

Developers have just dropped a brand new gameplay trailer, building upon what we previously saw in last year’s The Game Awards more story-centric offering.

The Old Country looks set to include everything you could hope to see in a Mafia entry, from high-octane vehicle chases to explosive firearms action.

You can watch the new gameplay trailer below.

If you’re not up to date, Mafia: The Old Country is a prequel; lifting the franchise from its typical US setting and plopping it down in 1900s Sicily, Italy.

Players will take on the role of Enzo, who has “survived a childhood of indentured labour in Sicily’s hellish sulfur mines”.

When we meet Enzo, he’s granted the opportunity to join the Don Torrisi crime family, where it’s teased that he’ll “do whatever it takes to carve out a better life for himself”.

You’ll find yourself making plenty of use of a stiletto blade and lupara sawed-off shotgun, two go-to weapons that Enzo will seemingly rarely be seen without.

And while, yes, there is that aforementioned vehicular action, this turn-of-the-century setting means you should also expect to spend a fair bit of time on horseback.

Honestly, the game looks to be shaping up incredibly; I cannot wait to get my hands on it, and that’s not something that’ll cost you an arm and a leg.

2K and Hangar refer to Mafia: The Old Country as a “premium” experience so you may be expecting the usual £70 price tag.

You assume wrong though.

Mafia: The Old Country will launch at a very reasonable price point of just £44.99 - and I have a feeling that could help make it this summer’s major hit.

Pre-orders are due to open later today, so do keep an eye out.
