One Of The Best GTA-Style Games Is Free To Download Now

Mafia is currently free to download on Steam in celebration of the game's 20th anniversary.

The start of the month always means free games. Earlier this week, Sony confirmed the lineup of titles coming to PlayStation Plus’ Essential tier, and there’s some very solid choices. On 20 September, the Extra and Premium tier game libraries will also be updated, with highlights including then excellent Deathloop, Assassin’s Creed Origins, and Chicory: A Colorful Tale.

As reported by PC Gamer, the original version of Mafia is free to download and keep on Steam right now, in celebration of the game’s 20th anniversary. For those unfamiliar, the game has a lot of similarities with the GTA series, and by many, is considered the best ‘not-GTA’ out there.

Take a look at our review for the Definitive Edition of Mafia below.

“It’s 1930. After an inadvertent brush with the mafia, cabdriver Tommy Angelo is reluctantly thrust into the world of [organised] crime,” the official synopsis reads. Initially, he is uneasy about falling in with the Salieri family, but soon the rewards become too big to ignore. As he rises through the ranks, the paydays keep getting bigger, but the jobs get even dirtier. Tommy may ultimately earn the respect of the Salieris, but becoming a Made Man will leave him more conflicted than ever with the new life he has chosen.”

If you’re interested, you have until 5 September to get in on this deal. Once you’ve claimed it, you can play it for free at any time in the future, so there’s really no reason not to - grab it from its Steam page here.
