If your backlog is anything like mine, it’s groaning under the weight of all of the additional games you keep adding to it.

Does that mean you should turn down an opportunity to enjoy a free open-world RPG? Absolutely not.

Your backlog can wait; this opportunity can’t.

Pearl Abyss’ Black Desert is free to download on Steam for a limited-time, granting you full access to this enormous online hit.

Yes, Black Desert is free to keep forever once downloaded; I’m not talking about a simple ‘free to play’ period.

This one launched back in 2017, so I’m imagining you’re familiar with the general concept but if you aren’t, allow me to fill you in.

Black Desert is an MMORPG that takes place in a huge fantasy world.

You’ll be able to partake in fast-paced combat encounters, PvP wars, explore large settlements and enjoy more simple pleasures like farming, trading, fishing, cooking, sailing, alchemy and more.

The game centres around the conflict between the warring nations of the Republic of Calpheon and the Kingdom of Valencia.

These nations were once at peace, but then the Black Death began to spread, sending the stability of society into disarray.

Precious black stones began to be harvested, becoming the most lucrative form of trade and thus integral commodities for any nation looking to rebuild.

Valencia was one of the first to catch on, while Calpheon took to stealing the stones given that the Republic’s lands yielded none.

Eventually both nations began fighting over the so-called Black Desert where the stones can be harvested widely.

That’s where you’ll find things when you step inside this story.

I should stress that you don’t have too long to nab this offer.

Black Desert is only free until 6pm on 10 July, so make sure you redeem your copy as soon as possible.

It’s perhaps worth pointing out that if you own Black Desert on console, you should recently have received a free upgrade to the new-gen version of the title.
