It’s been a hot minute since the last Hobbit movie released, and longer still since the final Lord of the Rings instalment. Thankfully though, it’s not too long until we have some fresh new content, in the form of the Amazon Prime series, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.

The show is set to premiere on 2 September, so it’s under two months to go until we can make our return to Middle-earth, only much, much earlier than in the timeline we all know and love - it’s going to take place thousands of years before The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.

Take a look at the teaser trailer for The Rings of Power below.

On Instagram, Dominic Monaghan, best known for his role as Meriadoc “Merry” Brandybuck in the LOTR trilogy, has been adding to the Middle-earth hype, by posting some pictures with co-stars Elijah Wood (Frodo Baggins), Sean Astin (Samwise Gamgee), and Billy Boyd (Peregrin “Pippin” Took).

In one photo, the actors perfectly replicate the iconic tavern scene from The Return of the King: “Life continuing to imitate art,” Monaghan wrote.

“You can’t keep doing this to my heart man,” commented namaste._. “What a beautiful friendship that came out of the beautiful on-screen friendship, from the best movies ever,” wrote wolfexperience.

In another post though, it seemed that the actor could be hinting towards the existence of some future Hobbit-related content - although whether he was simply referring to The Rings of Power or something else entirely (or nothing at all, for that matter) is totally unknown: “More nights of stories that will have to die with the shire folk,” the actor wrote. “Great food great wine. Plots and schemes for a future involving hobbits.”

A “future involving hobbits”? Interesting. Regardless of any hidden meaning, the pictures are all super wholesome - we love to see it.
