A new report claims that several LEGO games, some based on Marvel and Star Wars properties, have been cancelled at TT Games - including a highly-anticipated DLC for last year’s successful LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.

Around these parts, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga went down a treat. We rated the game a very respectable eight, writing that it “feels like the culmination of the decades of work developers TT Games have put into the LEGO Star Wars franchise. Every aspect is built with passion and love for both the story and the studs.” I reckon it’s probably the game I sunk the most hours into last year. Solving Kyber Crystal puzzles can very quickly become a way of life, I discovered. Unfortunately though, the positive reception to the game isn’t enough to ensure the futures of several other LEGO projects.

Speaking of Star Wars, who’s enjoying the third season of The Mandalorian?

According to Nintendo Life, TT Games have cancelled several upcoming projects including an untitled Disney project, LEGO Guardians of the Galaxy, and a Mandalorian DLC for LEGO Star Wars. Let’s start with the Disney project. Codenamed ‘Project Marley,’ the game would’ve supposedly featured multiple worlds and Disney characters including ones from Jungle Book, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Pirates of the Caribbean, Toy Story and Frozen. It essentially sounds like the LEGO version of Dreamlight Valley and on that premise alone, I’m sold.

It’s believed that TT Games were struggling with the direction of the project and the success of Dreamlight Valley may have been the final nail in the coffin. The game was thought to be four years into development. ‘Project Cosmic’ has also been canned which was assumed to be LEGO Guardians of the Galaxy. That game was thought to be about 18 months into development so it’s another major loss.

Then there’s The Mandalorian DLC for LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. To date, TT Games have mainly released character packs but the Mando DLC would’ve supposedly introduced a new narrative. Unlike the other two aforementioned projects, the DLC is thought to be in jeopardy as opposed to outright cancelled. I do wonder what’s next for the LEGO franchise after all of this.
