Legacy Of Kain: Soul Reaver is screaming out for a remake, fans agree

Legacy Of Kain: Soul Reaver is screaming out for a remake, fans agree

Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver is one of the greats and fans want it to return

What on Nosgoth has happened to the Legacy of Kain series? At this point, it’s been over twenty years since the last entry Legacy of Kain: Defiance in 2003.

This vampiric series began in 1996 with Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain on the original PlayStation before coming to PC the following year. Four sequels were to follow with arguably the best being Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver in 1999.

So with over two decades since the last entry in this beloved series, fans are screaming for a remake, and we agree. There was hope that we’d one day see the return of this series when developer Crystal Dynamics asked fans in a questionnaire if they’d like to see it make a comeback. This was following Embracer Group acquiring Square Enix Europe properties for $300 million which included Crystal Dynamics, who is also the current developer of Tomb Raider.

Fans on Reddit have been discussing Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver when user kraydful made the bold claim of labelling its introduction sequence as the ‘best’ of all time. This sparked pleas from fans calling for a remake.

“I was locked into this game from this opening scene and it still stands as one of my favourite cutscenes in my 25+ year gaming career,” agreed TheGameBear. “If those games got remade, I would buy them in a heartbeat. Fun as hell, a great story, and great voice acting. They were so good,” said WouldstThouLike2.

“Damn, that takes me back. Great game but I tried to replay it a year or so ago and damn was it hard. The lack of a map was a killer,” exclaimed a badly-shaved-wookie, giving more of a reason why Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver should receive the remake treatment.

“I've loved the entire series. Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen was spectacular. I will always vividly remember Malek being turned into an enchanted suit or armour,” said a reminiscent Senzafane. “Amy Henning was involved. So it's hardly surprising that the narrative is so good,” NarratorDM recalled. “It’s still one of the best story-driven game series with its rich lore.”

Only time will tell if this legendary series will get a remake from Crystal Dynamics, but we certainly hope so and should that time arrive, we’ll update you when it happens. Fingers crossed.
