HBO's 'The Last Of Us' Footage Shows A Fully Faithful Adaptation

It's looking promising that the show will closely follow the game.

There’s been a number of video game to TV or film adaptations of late which have not gone down too badly considering their often poor reputation.

Whether you’ve been into watching Tom Holland play Nathan Drake in the Uncharted film, or Paramount’s new Halo TV series, they seem to be doing rather well. These few corkers have given us all hope that good video game adaptations can exist. While HBO has given away very little officially about its on screen adaptation of The Last Of Us, which is reported to release next year, fans who have seen filming out and about have been picking up small photos and clips here and there.

If you like video game adaptations, check out our interview with the legendary Jim Carrey about his role in Sonic The Hedgehog 2 in the video below.

As spotted by ScreenRant, fan account @HBOsTheLastofUs has taken footage found by fans, and placed it next to footage from the video game. HBO previously said that the first series would follow the events of the first game, however, this is something which shouldn’t be taken for granted. As we’ve seen with Halo, the show is not at all like the game.

From the small clip below, it appears that HBO has at least been taking notes. There are a number of scenes people have caught on camera when the company are out filming, which can be traced back to a gaming counterpart. While we don’t know how the scenes fit together, it’s a good omen.

Star of The Mandalorian, Pedro Pascal, who has been cast as protagonist father figure Joel, previously admitted he attempted but never finished the game the show is based on. When asked about whether he had finished The Last Of Us he said “That’s [playing video games] not a skill I’ve developed”. Instead, he reportedly turned the controller over to his nephew who he watched play for him.
