Can you believe that it’s already been a week since season one of HBO’s The Last of Us drew to a close? This year, Mondays became ‘deep-dive day’ but while we may not have a brand new episode to discuss and pick apart today, the cast and creatives of The Last of Us have been dropping teases about the upcoming second season.

Already, we know that Bella Ramsey won’t be recast which is exactly what we wanted to hear. Bella is now actually the same age as Ellie post The Last of Us’ second season time jump. It’s also been confirmed that Part II will be adapted across multiple seasons, but the showrunners won’t do a Game of Thrones and tell a story beyond that which is told in the game. Today though, Bella has offered us an update on the one question on all of our minds: When is season two coming out?

One thing that is coming out soon is The Last of Us Part I on PC - 28 March to be exact. Take a look at the game in action below.

Bella recently appeared on The Jonathan Ross Show (via Independent) where they were asked about the shooting schedule of the upcoming second season. “It will be a while,” Bella said, as we expected. “I think we’ll probably shoot at the end of this year, beginning of next so it’ll probably be the end of 2024, early 2025.” That may seem like a long wait, but that’s a relatively quick turn around in the world of prestige TV. Who remembers waiting three years for a new season of Game of Thrones?

The first season of The Last of Us was filmed from July 2021 to June 2022, with the show then premiering in January 2023. That means there were around 18 months between the start of filming and the premiere date of the first episode, so Bella’s estimate sounds about right. We could even have to wait until mid-2025 if season two proves to be a much larger project.

There’s plenty of The Last of Us content to keep us entertained in the meantime though. We’ve got the upcoming untitled multiplayer game, which should get a full reveal this year, and the 10th anniversary of the franchise in June. What a line-up.
