The Last of Us fans got a hot new release this month that expands the story of the games further than ever before.
Naughty Dog knows exactly how to keep The Last of Us fans occupied while it secretly works on The Last of Us Part III. It might deny it but after the success of the first two games there’s no way we’re not getting a third.
Aside from the HBO TV series there have been a variety of other releases to keep fans busy and the big one for this month was the scripts from the game being available for public purchase.
Fans have been gradually acquiring their copies and diving in to see how it might differ from what was seen in the game, and they’ve been praising certain scenes for being just as gripping on the page as they were on the screen.

One scene that stands out amongst all the rest is the game’s opening, which sees Joel lose his daughter amidst the chaos of the infection breaking out.
It was described as “one of the most intense moments in all the games I’ve played” by Last of Us fan Dodo-Bey, who recently acquired their copy of the script.

One gamer wrote: “I still remember when I first encountered this scene. And it still amazes me how it evolved afterward, the storytelling and the conversations throughout the game. I started playing the first game again last week, and it is the very definition of a masterpiece!"
The written copy elevates the scene further than what was seen in the game, allowing you to take in every word from Joel as his world gets ripped apart.
“I get goosebumps every time I see that scene” said another of the comments, “despite how many times i've finished the games. i'm really glad they released the book, it's cool having the scripts available to get more little tidbits from ND/HG."

Another called it an “amazing opening to a game", adding: "And maybe it’s a controversial take, but there’s just no way Naughty Dog could have topped that without having another major death like Joel’s at the beginning of Last of Us 2 as well.”
Scripts for The Last of Us and The Last of Us Part II are now available for purchase online, and are an excellent pick-up for any fan of the games. They’d also make an amazing gift with the festive season upon us.
