Spoiler warning: this article contains a big spoiler for the opening hours of The Last of Us Part II.

Despite dividing fans at launch, The Last Of Us Part 2 is still for the most part a highly praised game. In fact, many Last Of Us 2 fans believe that one part of the game, in particular, is one of the “greatest mindf*cks” in all of gaming. Obviously, spoilers are ahead.

Reddit user spiketeam created a post on the official Last Of Us subreddit with the title: “Seattle Day 3 (Abby) is one of the greatest couple of hours in gaming. Ever.” They went on to say: “Started a 2nd playthrough after watching the show and somehow yesterday I wound up starting Abby day 3 and intended to stop an hour or so and get to bed but I just could not stop.

“Seattle day 3 is an emotional and visual non-stop rollercoaster and for me one of the greatest few hours of video gaming ever.”

The Seattle Day 3 segment sees the player in the boots of Abby, a secondary protagonist of sorts who’s also an antagonist to the main character Ellie. Day 3 is the eighth chapter in the story and ends in a climactic boss fight against Ellie herself, presenting a moral dilemma for the player, who’d likely be far too attached and supportive of her to want to take her out.

Other fans of the PlayStation exclusive were quick to agree that this section of the game was certainly a system shock, especially Ellie’s boss fight.

Ill_Tackle_5192 believes it to be the biggest mindf*ck in gaming history, saying: “The Ellie boss fight was legitimately one of the best mindfucks I’ve had in gaming, up there with the end of Metal Gear Solid 2.”

To draw similarities between The Last Of Us Part 2 and the brilliantly convoluted story of the Metal Gear Solid series is one heck of a compliment and something other commenters agreed with.

PaulieLombardo said: “That day was one of the best bits gaming-wise, cinematically wise and storytelling wise. Made the game go from a 8/10 to an 11/10 for me.”

Nightfol__ said it best, stating: “it's an incredible crescendo of violence that culminates perfectly in that horrifying fight at the theater. I like to play it all in one go. It's cathartic and emotionally draining.”

Despite a mixed reception, there’s no denying The Last Of Us Part 2 had some intensely memorable moments in its story.
