As much as we fight the notion, kids love the internet. If you grew up in the 00s like me, you’ll remember the golden days of after-school hours spent on Habbo Hotel and Runescape. Whilst online game platforms have always been home to some questionable behaviour, current flavour of the month Roblox keeps finding itself in the spotlight.
Roblox’s popularity skyrocketed during the pandemic and the site has an estimated 202 million monthly users. It’s thought that half of all under 16s in the US have an account. Despite its young user base, Roblox has come under fire for its lack of moderation - most recently, in an episode of The Kardashians of all places.
Netflix's gory drama Squid Game also made its way to Roblox, after users recreated 'Red Light, Green Light.' Take a look below.
Airing on 14 April in the US, ‘Burn Them All to the F***king Ground’ contained a scene in which Kim Kardashian’s son Saint discovered an in-game ‘advert’ on Roblox that used a well-known photo of Kim crying. “Look, this is on Roblox,” Saint announced to the room during a family barbeque.

Confused by the discovery, Kim turned to sister Khloe for clarification and later remarked, “Oh, it’s a game? Well if it’s a game, we’re suing them - if it’s a game with my name and picture.” According to Kim, the picture was accompanied by the caption “Kim’s new sex tape.”
Sexual content is banned on Roblox and managed by moderators, but users have still been able to access virtual sex clubs or other innapropriate content like recreated mass shootings. The sex tape advert appeared to be a user-created ‘experience’.
Roblox have since released a statement: “The referenced video was never available on our platform—we have strict moderation and policies to protect our community [...] The text reference to the tape that got around our filters was quickly taken down and fortunately visible only to an extremely small number of people on the platform. We also swiftly took down the associated experience and banned the community developer involved with the incident.”
Kim ended the episode with her own statement. “I have all the time, all the money, and all of the resources to burn them all to the f***king ground,” she exclaimed. Watch out Roblox.
