Back in June, we got the exciting news that a sequel to the 2019 psychological thriller Joker is on the way. Let’s face it, it was really only a matter of time - if a movie manages to rake in over $1 billion at the box office, it’s in most people’s interests to bring it back, and, well, that’s exactly what’s happening.
The film is titled Joker: Folie á Deux, which apparently refers to a psychological disorder in which symptoms of delusions or hallucinations are sent from one person to another. That right there is probably a rather large hint towards the plot of the movie, but it’s unfortunately all we have to go on for now.
While you're here, be sure to take a look at this amazing deleted scene from The Batman, featuring Joker.
Anyway, now, we may not have any more story details, but we do have something else very important - the release date. Deadline reports that, according to an update in Comscore, Joker: Folie á Deux is set to hit cinema screens on 4 October 2024. They also claim that production of the film is set to begin this December.

So, that’s quite a wait ahead of us. It was previously reported that Lady Gaga is apparently being considered for the role of Harley Quinn, and that the whole movie may actually be a musical. That’s still unofficial information, as of now, but I’ll admit I’m very curious to see how that'd even work. Todd Phillips, who’s set to direct Folie á Deux (and also directed Joker), previously worked as a producer on A Star Is Born (2018), so it wouldn’t be his first time working with Lady Gaga, if the rumours are true.
Meanwhile, it’s also been announced that a new Spotify podcast show is on the way, which will tell Harley Quinn’s origin story from her perspective. Harley Quinn & The Joker: Sound Mind will star Christina Ricci (The Addams Family, The Matrix Resurrections) as Harley, which is amazing in and of itself. There’s currently no release date for the show - hopefully it’ll come out sooner than the Joker sequel to help tide us over.
