It’s official: John Wick: Chapter 4 has been hit with an almost year long delay. Originally set to release on 27 May 2022, the new release date is 24 March 2023. Ouch.
Although the news is disappointing, it was at least delivered in a fun way. In a short video featuring the Wickverse's switchboard operators, the new date was seen written on a chalkboard and typed into one of the computers. The clip ends, saying: “Be seeing you”. Very bittersweet.
This news might come as a surprise to fans, given that the filming for the movie was finished back in November. But alas, as the pandemic continues, delays shouldn’t be too surprising - Disney already announced a bunch of delays for basically every Marvel movie in the works back in October, including Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (which just got a new trailer yesterday, if you missed it), and Thor: Love and Thunder.

Derek Kolstad, the screenwriter for the first three John Wick movies, has confirmed that he’s not involved with Chapter 4, or the already confirmed fifth instalment of the series. "No. At a certain stage the studio will tell you, your creation is graduated, and you wish it well," he said. "I'm still close with Chad (Stahelski, John Wick series director), still close with Dave (Leitch, John Wick co-director and producer), and I don't know what's going to happen, but I'm excited to see."

At least we have some other means of absorbing Keanu Reaves content into our veins - The Matrix Resurrections released just a few days ago, and it’s safe to say that it’s pretty damn good - to quote our review (read the full article here): “The action is intense, the set pieces are thrilling, and the philosophy is as heavy as ever before.” So be sure to get yourself down to the cinema while you can to check that out (a very real emphasis on “while you can”, cheers Omicron).
