Jesus chris– I mean, holy sh– wait… good heavens! There’s a Jesus Christ RPG game, and it’s available to play for free right now.
You may have already heard of I Am Jesus Christ, the biblical RPG from developer Space Boat Studios on Steam, several years ago.
The first trailer for the game was mercilessly mocked online back in 2019, and things went from bad to worse when a playable build of the game became available back in 2023.
Since then, things have changed quite a bit behind the scenes at Space Boat Studios. You see, according to the devs themselves in a post on Steam, the “previous version” of I Am Jesus Christ was “developed by the former team back in 2023”.

From what I can tell, this shift in the development team occurred sometime in late 2023. Not sure what led to the entire team being replaced, but it seems they’ve made some pretty huge changes in between then and now.
For instance, the latest patch notes on Steam state that the game now features “Dialogue improvements aligned more closely with source material” and “A more intense and enriched encounter between Jesus and Satan”. I guess the devil truly is in the details.
Also, what do you mean “aligned more closely with the source material”? Are you trying to tell me they were just winging it with the Biblical quotes before? I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised, considering they offered a free tie-in book for the game that features “AI-generated quotes and scripture” back in 2023.
Alright, but is the game actually any good? It does have a 72% positive review score on Steam. Of course, it’s hard to take any of those reviews seriously when they say stuff like “The best game i have ever played Jesus is so fricken sick”.

Highly suggest giving IGN’s playthrough of the demo a watch, though. For some reason, they spend 90% of the demo doing sweet parkour tricks.
If you’re really keen for the full release, it’ll be out at some point at the end of the year (according to the Steam page). Not sure what they’ll be charging for it yet, but here’s hoping it turns a prophet.
