The Horizon series has been one of the more consistently popular offerings of the last near-decade and fans are eager to hear when they might get more from it, some three years since the release of the last game.

As there were five years between the first two games, we shouldn't necessarily have expected anything to release just yet, but we are approaching the time where we might expect some kind of announcement.

Now, if only there was some kind of event coming up where big games have historically decided to make big announcements, that a new Horizon game could seamlessly slot into this week.

Joking aside, the potential for a Horizon announcement at The Game Awards on 11 December is reasonably high, and even if it doesn't turn out to be the third game, it's safe to say that fans are hyped for what they might end up getting.

Horizon at The Game Awards Has Fans Excited

Hype around The Game Awards is generally at a bit of a fever pitch, which each of the various fandoms holding out hope that they will be the chosen ones for a special, one of a kind announcement.

Horizon players are no exception, though some are still remaining cautious about getting their hopes up too high ahead of the big day. Over on Reddit, one player asked fans if they were expecting a Guerilla Games announcement at The Game Awards, and most are expecting a totally different title to the direct trilogy.

"At most it could be Horizon Online. I'm pretty sure Horizon 3 will release later than that, so until Online gets announced, don't expect H3. Also, Horizon 3 might be in a State of Play," one comment read.

"The biggest gaming event of the year with hundreds of thousands of people watching. Almost certain they'll announce something. Even when it means release in another two years, it's nothing out of the ordinary," another added.

A less confident fan added, "I want Horizon 3 to come out in Early 2027, when it marks ten years since Zero Dawn and five years since Forbidden West, but this damn online game delayed the whole timeline for the release and I don't see it coming out before 2028, unfortunately."

Whatever does happen, The Game Awards is set to be another evening of major announcements and revelations for the gaming industry. Plus we'll finally get to find out exactly what that monolith means.
