Horizon fans have been patiently awaiting news on a new game, though I don’t think Horizon: Steel Frontiers was what they were expecting.
In case you missed it Horizon: Steel Frontiers is an upcoming spin-off game for both PC and mobile, set in the Horizon universe. It’s not being made by Guerilla Games, but rather NCSOFT.
The best way to describe it would be if Horizon: Zero Dawn/Forbidden West met Monster Hunter, with more of an emphasis on combat than open-world exploration.
While many fans are excited for the game to drop there has been a bit of an outcry to release it on PlayStation, which is probably easier said than done as it was developed with mobile gamers in mind.
Advert
At the time of writing no release date for Horizon: Steel Frontiers was shared.

PlayStation has had nothing to do with the project aside from lending out the IP, and it has no relation to the third Horizon game which is supposedly in development as we speak.
To add a bit of credibility to this Guerrilla itself celebrated the new game announcement, as well as teased the future of the Horizon series.
In a tweet the studio said “We've loved collaborating with NCSOFT and are beyond excited to be able to hunt machines together in the world of Horizon – at Guerrilla, we're still busily working on more ways for you to do just that. More on that to come.”
The tweet is hinting at much more than Horizon 3, as Guerrilla is also working on a multiplayer Horizon game, though details on it are few and far between.
There could also be other projects on the way, perhaps a new VR title?
We don’t know for sure but I think we should all keep an eye on this year’s Game Awards, as that seems like a likely place to get some new Horizon game news unless a new PlayStation State Of Play gets announced before the big awards show.
What else is new in the Horizon franchise?
Despite Horizon fans being desperate for another PlayStation game I don’t think Light of Motiram is what they wanted.
It's definitely not what Guerrilla and PlayStation wanted either as there's currently a legal dispute going on accusing Light Of Motiram of plagiarising the Horizon series.
The publisher behind Light of Motiram, Tencent Games, has rejected the claims so we’ll see how that all plays out in court.
