There’s most definitely room for improvement in Hogwarts Legacy’s open-world.
Those who go for full completion will soon tire of visiting variations of a set number of caves and ruins.
It’s difficult to criticise Hogwarts itself though, and Hogsmeade for that matter.
Avalanche Software totally nailed its creation of the famous wizarding school which is jam-packed with hidden discoveries.

The opening 10 hours or so of the game are totally magical as players take to exploring whilst attending their classes.
There are some fun nods around the wider world too, with several linking back to the films you all know and love.
Hogwarts Legacy’s Open-World is Hiding a Dark Secret
One of the Easter eggs you may have overlooked relates to the infamous Basilisk which you’ll likely know from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
Here’s some lore for you. A Basilisk is born when a chicken egg is hatched beneath a toad.

Somehow, that creates the huge deadly serpent. How? I don’t know. We don’t ask questions like that in this franchise.
It’s a fact that not many Wizarding World fans know, so Hogwarts Legacy’s Basilisk secret may have gone totally over your head.
During the quest ‘In The Shadow of the Mountain’, players can find a hidden cave using depulso. It’s very easy to miss.
Within that cave, you’ll find a Basilisk breeder mentioned by earlier in-game newspapers.
The dead individual is found frozen on the ground surrounded by wooden cages and chickens.
If you look very closely, you can spot a broken egg shell, suggesting the breeder did indeed hatch a Basilisk and was petrified as soon as it glanced his way.
To know that you’re exploring the game with a Basilisk on the loose is … chilling.
Of course, it won’t be very big in size at that point in time.
There are plenty of other macabre discoveries to be made. Players can find a murdered wizard with a “mudblood” note on their body, for example, suggesting a rather grisly targeted attack.
In another instance, you can find a dead werewolf in human form. Many of these finds may seem random without context but they actually all trace back to in-game documents.
Those letters and such like that you keep finding are actually the clue to unearthing Hogwarts Legacy’s most overlooked secrets.
In fact, the Basilisk is mentioned in one document, as spotted by Reddit user DeVito8704 after a whopping 160 hours.
“I shall place the creature into a deep sleep in its chamber until it can be awakened by one who shares my views,” reads a journal entry.
Let’s hope Hogwarts Legacy’s eventual sequel proves to be as bountiful.
