Hogwarts Legacy players agreed on the open world's biggest problem

Hogwarts Legacy players agreed on the open world's biggest problem

A couple of months after its release, Hogwarts Legacy players agreed on the open-world biggest problem.

A couple of months after its release, Hogwarts Legacy players agreed on the open-world biggest problem.

Well, well, well, Hogwarts Legacy, it seems that some players are not happy about one of the game's most important features of the action RPG set within the Wizarding World.

So what are players disappointed about? It seems that players are having issues with the side missions, which include the infamous Merlin Trials. Previously, players have taken issue with the repetitive structure of the Merlin Trials as well as slamming its rubbish final reward. This is a major issue, considering the Merlin Trials are the only way to increase your inventory slots.

“I finally got my Alohomora to 3 and I was so excited to start exploring the world until I found out what that actually meant. More than half of the side "content" is the god-awful Merlin Trials and the same cycle of 2-3 (probably AI-generated) treasure vaults,” bemoaned Reddit user t00tfruit. “It just baffles my mind that they actually managed to make side content that's worse than Ubisoft,” ouch!

They continued: “I swear it's like devs are saying "okay we've created this big beautiful open world with immersive gameplay and lore, now what can we add to make players have as little fun as possible and absolutely dread seeing new map icons pop up".

“Now, I do still really love almost everything else about the game and am having a blast now that I've done all the bulls*** and only have real quests left to do. Sorry for the rant, It just angers me like I'm tired of being punished for my OCD which makes me have to do everything even if there's no good reason to do them. I hate seeing it incomplete on the map.”

It seems that much of the Reddit thread was in agreement with the frustrated rant. “Yeah, the game really dropped the ball when you're done in Hogwarts. Most of the open world side stuff just feels tacked on like they were there to tick boxes,” agreed welsh_hero_beans.

“I agree, the only thing keeping me exploring is getting all of the collection chests to decorate my room of requirement lol,” added potato_pineapple. “Yeah, I beat the game in 2 weeks and haven’t really gone back. I thought Hogwarts was incredibly well done and I had a blast exploring it, but now that it’s done I just don’t feel the desire to replay it, even in a different house,” said another user.

At the end of the day, we all have different tastes, especially in gaming. One person’s trash could be another’s game-of-the-year contender. At least on Metacritic, Hogwarts Legacy on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S has been very well received with scores ranging from 83 to 88 at the time of writing.

When does Hogwarts Legacy come out on Nintendo Switch and last-gen consoles? Hogwarts Legacy is out now for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. It will then release on 5 May for PS4 and Xbox One, followed by Nintendo Switch on 25 July.
