A fresh new leak for a game set in a completely different literary universe from Harry Potter is already getting Hogwarts Legacy fans excited.

While a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy has yet to be officially announced, leaked information regarding another Warner Bros video game adaptation is getting fans of the game hyped.

Why, you ask? Because the leaker directly stated that the upcoming game is meant to “compete with Hogwarts Legacy”, which fans think is a great sign for its potential quality.

As revealed last night in an article by Insider Gaming's Mike Straw, a source close to the website stated that a new The Lord of the Rings game is already in development-- and, according to Straw’s source, "has been for some time".

According to the leaker, the game is being funded by the Abu Dhabi Investment Office, and its development will be supported by several parties, including Embracer Group.

Although you may assume that this means Warner Bros will be directly competing with themselves, considering they published Hogwarts Legacy and essentially every well-known piece of Lord of the Rings media in the past three decades, that’s not actually the case.

Back in 2022, Embracer purchased the rights for the LOTR franchise for roughly 400 million dollars, so Warner Bros won’t be involved in the production of the leaked title.

Over on the r/GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit, commenters seem oddly happy about the news, due to the comparisons between the leaked game and Hogwarts Legacy.

“Hogwarts Legacy in the LOTR universe? This immediately becomes my most anticipated game”, commented user LinkedInParkPremium.

“God is real. HL style would be sick”, replied user zoon_zoon.

“Adventure with focus on exploration/puzzles. Needs more/better RPG elements for sure though.”

“Not much details regarding the game in the article but it says that it apparently is a third person action type game similar to Hogwarts Legacy, literally says to compete with Hogwarts Legacy,” commented user Ok_Gift_2739.

“I have yet to play that game but this sounds like good news I'm assuming as I have heard positive things about that game, we really need a good Lord of the Rings game, hopefully this is it.”

Personally, I’m not a huge fan of Hogwarts Legacy myself, but I do think a LOTR game inspired by it could work.

Hopefully it ends up on par with the likes of Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, and not The Lord of the Rings: Gollum.
