Hogwarts Legacy Gets Surprise Update, Available Now

The magic continues

Despite being almost three years since it was first released, Hogwarts Legacy is set to welcome another surprise update which fans will be more than happy for.

Launching back in February 2023 and becoming the best-selling game of the year, Hogwarts Legacy allowed Harry Potter fans to live out their childhood dreams by becoming a student of the magical school.

Set in and around Hogwarts, the RPG developed by Avalanche Software and published by Warner Bros. was a hit but has since been met with criticism due to its lack of content updates since launch.

With the team now turning its attention to Hogwarts Legacy 2, it is unlikely that the highly sought after content will arrive any time soon.

However, it is not all doom and gloom as a recent announcement spells good news for fans.

It has been revealed that Hogwarts Legacy will now welcome Xbox Play Anywhere support.

If you are unaware of this feature, it allows players to purchase a digital game once and then be able to play it on both their Xbox consoles, PC and supported handhelds without having to make two separate purchases.

Not only that but any progression, achievements and add-ons will also be included and so this cross-platform and cross-progression feature will see you able to start up where you left off without losing any saved data.

Hogwarts Legacy is just the latest title to receive the Xbox Play Anywhere treatment with the feature now starring over 1,000 games in its library.

This includes titles such as Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, The Outer Worlds 2, DOOM: The Dark Ages, Gears of War: Reloaded and many more.

However, news of Hogwarts Legacy’s arrival to the Xbox Play Anywhere library was met with some mixed reviews over on social media.

“Wow, this is incredible,” one happy fan shared.

“I have the game on Xbox but haven't been able to play since I moved to PC. Suddenly, I own the game on my PC AND my progress is still there.

I don't feel like buying games that don't offer Play Anywhere. This is the way forward.”

However, another Xbox user felt as though Hogwarts Legacy is getting special treatment.

“Hogwarts Legacy can get Xbox Play Anywhere support two years after release, but ESO, Fallout 76, DOOM 2016, Halo MCC, Minecraft (include spin-offs), Diablo IV, Halo 5, Halo Wars (1 & 2), the Wolfenstein and Dishonored games, Hellblade 1, etc are all first party games without it,” they shared.

The fact remains is that Hogwarts Legacy is now the latest title which can be played across multiple Xbox platforms and so if you are eager to head back to school without worrying about losing any progress, this is the perfect opportunity to do so.
