Hogwarts Legacy has generated over $1 billion in revenue, claims analyst

It's claimed that Hogwarts Legacy has driven over $1 billion in revenue, little over a month on from its launch on new-gen consoles and PC.

Little over a month on from its launch on PC and new-gen consoles, Hogwarts Legacy may have just hit a massive sales milestone.

It took only two weeks for the Wizarding World RPG to sell 12 million copies, which was already wild. At the time, this drove $850 million in revenue, which quickly made it Warner Bros. Games’ biggest launch ever, and the most successful Harry Potter game of all time. Now though, according to games industry insider and entertainment media data analyst Millie A, that number has soared even higher.

Take a look around Hogsmeade in Hogwarts Legacy below.

As TheGameSpoof reports, according to the analyst, Hogwarts Legacy has now generated over $1 billion in revenue. Although this hasn’t been confirmed by Warner Bros. Games at the time of writing, the figure would be wholly unsurprising. Sales of the game have barely slowed since release - in the UK, it’s remained at the top of the physical games chart, and recently overtook Elden Ring’s lifetime sales in the country. That’s no small feat.

Considering that Hogwarts Legacy is a game based on one of the highest-grossing media franchises of all time, its success was predictable. However, to see the figures as high as they are is still quite a shock when you consider how many people have been boycotting the title due to its association with Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling. Rowling continues to face criticism for making harmful comments about the trans community, and will financially benefit from the game’s sales despite the fact that she wasn’t directly involved with its development. Some of the developers who worked on the game previously announced that they’re boycotting it for the same reason.

It seems unlikely that Hogwarts Legacy’s success is going to slow down any time soon. The game is coming to Xbox One and PS4 on 5 May (after yet another delay), and Nintendo Switch on 25 July.
