When a video game becomes a massive success both critically and commercially, such as Hogwarts Legacy, a sequel would surely be a given, right?

Developed by Avalanche Software, when Hogwarts Legacy was released in February 2023, it instantly became a hit with Harry Potter fans, allowing them to live their best Wizarding World fantasy life exploring the gorgeous walls of Hogwarts Castle and beyond.

Hogwarts Legacy went on to become such a huge success that it not only surpassed the lifetime sales of Elden Ring in just five weeks but it also became the best-selling video game of 2023.

That being said, despite the success of Hogwarts Legacy, it still managed to get snubbed at some prestigious video game ceremonies such as The Game Awards to the dismay of disgruntled fans.

Regardless of the ceremony snubs, the commercial success should give the publisher Warner Bros. Games all the confirmation it needs to approve a sequel and while it’s not been officially announced yet, it does seem that plans could already be in motion.

As reported by Game Rant, a job listing advertised by Warner Bros. Discovery for a position at Avalanche Software for a lead/advanced technical artist could indicate that the studio is preparing for Hogwarts Legacy 2.

The role would require the would-be applicant to have “strong Unreal and Python/C++ experience” to work on a “high-profile” AAA title.

Before Hogwarts Legacy, Avalanche Software had worked on many other titles, mostly video game adaptations of various animated productions but the 2023 action RPG was certainly its first major AAA success.

Of course, this listing could be for a new game unrelated to Hogwarts Legacy, but given its huge success, it’s most certainly not outside the realm of possibility that the job vacancy could be to work on Hogwarts Legacy 2.

As Hogwarts Legacy 2 hasn't been announced, it could be safe to assume that it’s in very early production at best and would likely be a new-gen title should it happen.

Hogwarts Legacy is out now on PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch.
