Highguard has finally launched in the last hour and as thousands of players dive into the new online shooter the developers have already confirmed new content, dropping soon.
Developer Wildlight Entertainment dropped its new launch trailer for the online multiplayer shooter which showed off some new gameplay, whilst also explaining its origins and core mechanics.
In a nutshell players team-up to attack and defend player-owned strongholds using a key item called the Shieldbreaker. There are a variety of weapons and weapon modifications to help with this, all tied to different characters that have unique abilities. The game has seen a lot of comparisons to Concord.
Now that the game has finally unlocked on PlayStation, Xbox and PC platforms interested gamers are finally jumping in, after weeks of silence following the debut trailer during The Game Awards 2025.

As they load up though the developers shared via livestream some of the new content that’s already on the way, in literally two weeks time.
Wildlight explained that Highguard will be broken up into “episodes,” which will be split into two parts.
These episodes will reportedly drop every few months bringing a variety of new content to the free-to-play title.

Highguard’s launch counts as the first episode but the second is already planned to drop in just two weeks.
The second episode will introduce an extra map to go with Highguard’s current line-up of five, as well as expand the loot pool with new gear and weapon modifications that could make or break your games.
Also joining the above will be a new gamemode, a smart choice in case players are already getting bored with what’s currently available.
Provided the updates remain consistent it sounds like the game will have a decent chance of success, as despite the silence in the build-up to the game’s launch there are a lot of gamers interested in checking it out now that it’s available.
Will it reach the same heights as other online shooters like Arc Raiders? Maybe, but at the time of writing it’s far too early to tell.
We’ll be checking out the game ourselves over the coming week but by the launch trailer alone it looks pretty good. The only thing that might hurt it in the long-run, and this is something eager players have already noticed, is the in-game economy.
Being free-to-play there will obviously be some in-game cosmetics or unlockables that require in-game currency to acquire. What that content is and how much it costs could be vital to the game’s overall success.
