Harry Potter is finally getting the anime treatment, following a crossover with one of the most popular animes in Japan.

Thank you in advance to Nick Valdez over on ComicBook for the original source!

As revealed by the official @conan_file Twitter account, Case Closed (better known as Detective Conan in the West) is officially crossing over with Harry Potter himself.

The collaboration is actually live in the latest issue of Weekly Shōnen Sunday today, and you can take a peak at a special piece of artwork featuring both Conan and Harry (drawn by Case Closed’s series creator Gosho Aoyama himself) over on @conan_file’s Twitter.

“Issue 9 of Shonen Sunday, released today, features an original illustration by 青山剛昌-sensei [Gosho Aoyama] of [Detective Conan] and Harry Potter!” @conan_file revealed.

“It will be on display at the Mahodokoro Landmark Plaza store until the end of February! The collaboration commemorative campaign is also running until February 2nd.”

Now, the details on said “collaboration commemorative campaign” are a little light right now, but it does imply that this isn’t just some off the cuff piece of fan art, and that both Conan and Harry will be collaborating further down the line.

ICYMI: Harry Potter is being rebooted as a TV show.

Case Closed is a huge deal in Japan, even if its popularity never quite transferred to the West in the same way. It’s so popular in fact, that its anime adaptation has been running since 1996 with over a whopping 1,100 episodes aired.

A collaboration like this will likely bring Gosho Aoyama’s work into the spotlight in the West, but it’ll also bring a bigger audience to Harry Potter in Japan. Plus, it’s kind of cute that the two look so similar in Aoyama’s artwork.

We’ll have to wait and see what else comes out of this “commemorative campaign” in the coming days, but all I’m saying is that everyone would be a winner if a Case Closed/Harry Potter collab makes it to our TV screens.
