The next Halo game is probably years away but it’s already sounding like a quality title, going back to the roots of what made the series so great to begin with.
Halo: Infinite wasn’t a bad game by any means and I’d argue it’s the best Halo game we’ve had in years, but something about it just felt off and the lack of singleplayer DLC is pretty telling of its troubled development.
With that in mind it’s no wonder that Halo Studios is going back to the basics, as our “first-look” if you want to call it that of the next Halo game looked like an Unreal Engine 5 remake of Halo Combat Evolved.

This hasn’t been confirmed by Halo Studios yet but it wouldn’t be a surprise, as by this point in the series it feels like a reboot is sorely needed.
What we do know is that Dan Gniady, who previously worked as a producer and gameplay designer on Destiny 2 will be leading development on the next title.
In a promising update Gniady has said they're "doing game direction on a Halo experience” and will be "giving The Covenant back their bomb” which is obviously a reference to Halo 2.
Fans have already begun speculating what this could mean, with one theorising that “the story of Infinite will be finished in a book, and Halo 7 will take place sometime after and have a completely different enemy, potentially bring the Covenant back.”

Others are less optimistic like one who teased “Don't worry guys, the fourth time's the charm. They'll really knock it out of the park this time.”
“Ok. I’ve heard this all before. At this point I’m just going to let them do their thing and check it out when it's released. I’m done getting excited for the next Halo game” said another.
Halo 7, or Halo, whatever it’s called, has potential. But fans are right to temper their expectations for the time being.
