Halo fans losing their minds over surprise return of Halo 3

Halo fans are buzzing with excitement following a surprise return of Halo 3 in the series’ most recent release.

Halo: Combat Evolved launched alongside the original Xbox console in November 2001, and it was the perfect way for Microsoft to introduce its new machine to the world.

Before 2001, slick FPS gameplay was only customary for PC gamers with the super-responsive keyboard and mouse duo. However, Halo: Combat Evolved proved that FPS gaming on consoles using a controller could also be super slick, albeit still not quite to the same standard as a keyboard and mouse.

It’s been nearly 25 years since the original Xbox and Halo: Combat Evolved launched, and now rumours are making the rounds that an Unreal Engine 5 remake is on the way.

Following Halo: Combat Evolved, then under the guidance of Bungie, the series continued to grow bigger and better over the next few years, and perhaps the best of the bunch is Halo 3, released on the Xbox 360 in 2007.

Halo 3 was the first entry in the series on the Xbox 360, and not only did it offer improved visuals and gameplay, but its story was arguably the best, and so was its competitive multiplayer offering.

You can still play Halo 3 to this day on PC and Xbox Series X/S via Halo: The Master Chief Collection, and it’s aged like a fine wine. That being said, if you wanted to play the multiplayer with improved visuals, now is your chance because there’s a new playlist on Halo Infinite.

As brought to our attention by Twitter user iSpiteful, 11 new maps have been added to the Halo Infinite playlist courtesy of the in-game Forge creative suite. What’s more, the maps also have legacy movement, which means no sprint or climbing structures.

“Dude, why is Halo cooking all of a sudden? My childhood is coming back, man,” said an appreciative ramosatv.

“I may have to jump back on for this,” suggested tylerdurdenhi.

“Okay, that did it. I’m jumping back in tomorrow before work,” declared ChrisBrowderNow.

Halo Infinite is out now on PC, Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One. Its multiplayer modes are free-to-play with the main story campaign as paid-for content.
