I think we can all agree that Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition (that’s a mouthful) was one of the most disappointing releases to come from last year’s gaming lineup. Three iconic titles given a fresh coat of paint and thrown into one neat package seemed like a foolproof idea, but sadly, the final product definitely didn’t meet expectations.

At launch, the collection (which includes GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas) was pulled from PC after Rockstar admitted that they were having to remove data from the game which had been “unintentionally included”, and players everywhere were requesting refunds due to its buggy, arguably unplayable state. Needless to say, those beloved titles really didn’t get the treatment fans had been hoping for. But now, an indie graphics design studio has decided to give San Andreas a second chance, with an absolutely stunning Unreal Engine 5 remake.

Check out the trailer for the incredible fan-made remake in question right here.

The trailer for the remake was posted on TeaserPlay’s YouTube channel yesterday, and has already been taking the internet by storm. It shows off a completely revamped Grove Street, as well as an incredible updated character model for CJ himself (which was created by another YouTube user, Hossein Diba). As we’ve come to expect from any Unreal Engine 5 creation, the lighting and water effects in particular look spectacular - it kind of hurts seeing the greatness that we could have had.

Fans in the YouTube comments have been pouring out their support: “This is how a remake should be. This is beautiful,” wrote Prij .T. “Looks awesome makes me want to play with CJ again,” commented games kNRTdrinkz.

Unfortunately, TeaserPlay hasn’t given any indication as to whether or not this remake is actually going to be playable, or develop beyond just Grove Street, but their channel is full of other super-impressive projects, from their remaster of Bully to their own take on a Max Payne remake - be sure to check them out if you’re interested.
