Grand Theft Auto fans were bracing themselves for something big today, the third trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI. Unfortunately it doesn’t look like it’s coming and it’s all Red Dead Redemption 2’s fault.
Rockstar Games’ next title has become so heavily-anticipated that it’s actually popping up in people’s dreams, and those that are awake are booking time off work for its 19 November release date.
The third trailer was expected to debut later today but a recent post regarding Red Dead Redemption 2 has quickly killed the hype.
There have been some real tinfoil hat conspiracy theories on when the third trailer for GTA VI might drop.
One gamer last week believed they’d pinpointed the date using the planetary alignments, whereas others cited Rockstar's previous social media history.

Today, 12 May, was supposed to be the big day but Rockstar Games’s recent activity on BilliBilli in China says otherwise.
For those that don’t know BilliBilli is a Chinese social media site that often gets new posts before worldwide competitors like X, Bluesky, Instagram, etc.
Earlier today Rockstar posted about Red Dead Redemption 2’s latest Online event, shared by ProudBoiiiiLol on Reddit, including what missions will net you the most cash and any bonus freebies currently on offer.
When previous GTA VI trailers have been dropped Rockstar Games has uploaded them in place of one of these Red Dead Online updates. This implies that there will be no third trailer today, just the same post shared on the studio’s other social media channels instead.
Now before we go all doom and gloom there’s every chance this could be bait. While marketing is due to start up later this month/early June Rockstar will know damn well that it doesn’t need to market the game.
Previous GTA VI announcements and reveals have been shadowdropped right when we least expected it so it wouldn’t be a stretch of the imagination to believe Rockstar is purposefully posting Red Dead Redemption 2 news to drop everyone’s guard.
Basically Grand Theft Auto fans should still keep their eyes peeled later today for a third trailer, but don’t raise your expectations too high.
GTA VI’s third trailer is still expected to be shared later this month as the game’s publisher Take-Two Interactive has an earnings call scheduled for 22 May. The company’s CEO Strauss Zelnick has also been very vocal about the game recently in interviews, suggesting that the 19 November release date is locked in and all parties are ready to start promoting the game.
If the trailer doesn’t pop up today the next favourite date is 14 May, and failing that sometime next week would seem most likely.
The next trailer is especially exciting as it’s believed we’ll finally get confirmation on how much the game will cost, as well as see pre-order windows open.
