It looks like the GTA VI release date could be set in stone, and it might be ok to mark our calendars.

At the time of writing, Rockstar Games’ next entry in its immensely popular Grand Theft Auto series has a release date that will see it launch during May next year. However, we’re all well aware that release dates can and will get delayed.

This is especially true when it comes to Rockstar Games titles, whether it's Grand Theft Auto or Red Dead Redemption. That being said, the proof is often in the pudding with the studio making the most out of the extra development time.

While it never had a solid release date initially, GTA VI was scheduled to be released late 2025 before it was later pushed back to May 2026. So, we’ve already had one delay, and many fear that we’re bound to get another.

That being said, I’m on the assumption that GTA VI will probably get another delay at some point, but if this recent news is anything to go by, at the very least, its current release date has a decent chance of sticking to its guns.

This week, a shareholders' meeting was held with those in charge of Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar Games and from that, it’s been reiterated that the studio intends to honour its current release date.

“Take-Two says GTA VI is still targeting May 26, 2026 and that Rockstar ‘will share more details in the future’” tweeted the Twitter account, ‘GTA 6 Countdown’.

“An earnings call is also scheduled for early November, so we should hear an update around that and possibly see a new trailer,” it added in a follow-up tweet.

“Translation: we will delay it,” replied a pessimistic bbrichardbb.

“The last time they said that, a few days later, a trailer came out,” said the optimistic gasparini_61267.

“If they don’t release a new trailer by the end of the year to reaffirm it, I expect a fall 2026 delay,” claimed johnnyjl96.

“We've gone from releasing to targeting. See you in September 2026,” Janonx1 responded.

We should take nothing for granted, especially when it concerns Rockstar Games, because despite this news, I don't think any of us will be shocked if GTA VI gets another delay. We’ll probably be more shocked if it doesn't.

Grand Theft Auto VI is currently scheduled to be released on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on 26 May 2026.
