GTA 6 gets another release date update, brace yourselves

It's not as bad as you think

GTA 6 has just received another release date update, but this one shouldn’t stress you out too much.

Following a year of silence, Rockstar Games announced a delay to the GTA 6 release date earlier this month.

The game was originally announced with a vague “2025” release window, but it’s now confirmed to be coming on 26th May, 2026.

While the company released a second trailer for the game to ease fans’ frustrations, the delay has clearly caused some concern.

GTA 6 now has two trailers out for you to enjoy.

Now, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has commented on the recent GTA 6 delay. Chatting to CNBC, Zelnick confirmed that the “pretty short” delay has amounted to “less than six months”.

He also stressed that further delays are unlikely, saying “Generally, when we announce a date, we're able to hit that date.”

“Rockstar is trying to create the best thing anyone has ever seen in entertainment. Not just interactive entertainment. That's a tall order,” Zelnick added to his comments.

It’s worth noting that a delay was likely for GTA 6, as other Rockstar games from the last ten years were also similarly pushed back.

GTA 5 was delayed by about 4 months in 2013, and its Xbox Series X/S and PS5 versions from a few years back were also delayed by a similar window.

Red Dead Redemption 2 was also delayed by about a year, moving from late 2017 to October 2018.

With GTA 6 now slated for release on 26th May, 2026, that frees up the Fall and Winter 2025 release windows for other game publishers to release their games.

Given how massive the GTA 6 release is going to be, many publishers had decided to tighten their lips on release date announcements until they could ensure they weren’t competing directly with Rockstar and Take-Two.

Some games confirmed to be releasing in the latter half of the year include Marathon, Ghost of Yōtei, and The Dark Pictures Anthology: Directive 8020. We'll likely hear about more as the year goes on, especially as we head into Summer Game Fest in a few weeks.
