Rockstar Games has just dropped Grand Theft Auto VI’s second trailer, and I can’t quite believe it.
It was just last week that the studio announced the game’s delay, although a launch date of 26 May 2026 was confirmed to soften the blow.
That’s now been followed by the elusive second trailer which I don’t think any of us were expecting anytime soon.

It’s cinematic/story based more so than showcasing any gameplay, but we’ve finally got a better idea of what’s in store for our leads Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos.
Alongside the trailer, Rockstar launched GTA VI’s website which features a ton of info on some of the game’s in-game locations, teasing just how enormous the game’s map will be.
PlayStation 5 users are extra hyped as the trailer was captured entirely on a base PS5 console, offering owners an exclusive glimpse at the quality they can expect from the end release.
Within the trailer, eagle-eyed fans also spotted a returning character but it’s a returning character that’s drummed up a lot of confusion.

That returning character is none other than Phil Cassidy who you may recall from titles like Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto III.
The redneck arms dealer can be seen standing atop ‘Phil’s Ammu Nation’.

The confusion surrounds the timeline of GTA VI as, you see, one of Phil’s defining traits is that he only has one arm.
Well, here he has two so naturally, you assume that GTA VI may take place before Vice City and act as somewhat of a prequel.
But then there’s the question of technology, as what we see here seems far more advanced that what we saw in Vice City so that throws the prequel theory into disarray.
That leaves two options.

The first is that Rockstar retconned the character, but I can’t see why they’d return his arm for no reason when that’s one of his defining traits.
The second, and more likely option, is that perhaps this Phil Cassidy is the son of the Phil Cassidy we know; a Phil Jr. and Sr. situation.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like we’re going to get any concrete answers anytime soon as I’m imagining Rockstar is prepping for another umpteen months of radio silence.
