Grand Theft Auto VI has had one of the most turbulent and hectic development cycles of just about any game ever made.
So much pressure is being mounted on Rockstar Games’ shoulders to deliver a game even a fraction as good as Red Dead Redemption 2, so it’s all hands-on-deck to make it happen.
It’s due to this that the launch date has had to be changed several times for the game’s own good. Initially it was sometime in 2025, then it was pushed back to May 2026, and then November 2026.
Further delays have been feared, but the latest leaks suggest these delays are essential for the game’s best chance of success, especially the latest one.
GTA VI is said to be much larger than Red Dead Redemption 2 in terms of both scope and scale.

Some of the latest leaked details around the game state that during December 2025 voice actors were brought in to voice bonus voicelines to use in the game, 35,000 to be precise.
For context Red Dead Redemption 2 has over 500,000 lines of dialogue in the game, which will likely pale in comparison to GTA VI as the latter will be able to support several times as many NPCs in its open-world.
These recorded voicelines cover a variety of reactions NPCs could have to the player, as well as lines regarding their daily activities and their thoughts on the world around them.
The timing of these voiceover sessions is incredibly interesting though. Rockstar Games announced that it’d be delaying GTA VI to November 2026 on 6 November 2025, just a month before these voice acting sessions reportedly took place.

Additionally it’s said the actual content of these new voicelines actually repurpose cut-content Rockstar has decided to add back in.
This would imply the delay was actually quite a last-minute decision, and that the following months have been used to restore content that wasn’t originally planned for the game when it still had its initial release date.
In a nutshell this means that the delays weren’t made just to give Rockstar Games more time to polish the game, it was actually done to increase the already massive scale of the project.
This is excellent news as one of the fears surrounding GTA VI at the moment is whether the open-world will suffer from being too big. The proximity of cities and how many NPCs you encounter have all been a point of discussion but if these new voicelines are anything to go off it sounds like the developers are hard at work ensuring every inch of the game feels interesting to the player.
This places those heartbreaking delays in a new light. They weren’t cause for concern, or a sign Rockstar Games had bit off more than it could chew, but a challenging yet worthwhile endeavour to ensure the game is the best it can be in terms of actual, physical content not just polish.
