GTA 6 to hold back content and sell later as DLC, says insider

A Grand Theft Auto 6 insider is claiming that Rockstar may hold back content to release as DLC to speed up releasing the game.

Every morning I sit down at my desk and mutter, ‘Maybe today is the day that Grand Theft Auto VI is announced.’ I never believe it, of course. One day though, it will finally happen and I quite honestly think it will break the internet. It’s certainly the only thing gamers will be talking about for quite some time.

If rumours and inside info is anything to go by, we could be gearing up for a GTA VI reveal soon. Last year, Rockstar Games was hit by a major cyber attack during which an hour of development footage was leaked, so we know progress is swimming along nicely. Rapper 50 Cent has dropped several Vice City related hints over the last few days, plus one insider claims to know GTA VI’s planned launch window. Leaker Tez2 said that Rockstar is aiming for a late 2024 launch but in order to make that launch a reality, they’ll need to hold back some content.

Take a look at this mod which allows you to play as The Boys’ Homelander in GTA V.

Tez2 is a somewhat reputable GTA insider, although that’s not to say that they get everything right. In this instance, Tez2 claims that Rockstar’s “deadline is holiday 2024,” adding that the date has been “pushed back multiple times [in] the past few years”. The most significant part of Tez2’s update though is that the leaker claims that Rockstar will cut portions of the game and hold them back as DLC in order to get the game to a releasable state faster.

They wrote, “I personally see an announcement as a given this year. I don’t think the upper management is in a position to delay further to holiday 2025/2026. Cutting more portions of the game to package into DLCs to release late on may be [more] sustainable for management than delaying further.”

Interesting. As mentioned, do take this with a pinch of salt for now until anything is officially confirmed by Rockstar. Given how long GTA VI has been in development, I think I can speak on behalf of all of us when I say that we’re expecting big things.
